Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) is a visual programming tool developed by MIT that simplifies programming into blocks of code and teaches programming basics to beginners through the construction of creative games. Our Scratch in Schools Outreach Program was started in September 2015 in order to reach out to local schools and organizations to expand to more elementary school students (4th - 6th grades). We hope students can be introduced to coding and be engaged in it from an early age in order to capture their interest and build a strong foundation for future programming endeavors.
"Scratch is super fun to do, I would recommend it. It is fun to make games however you want. I like Scratch." Aiden, 5th grade
We offer free Scratch programming classes in schools to 4th-6th graders
Come to showcase your Scratch skills in our public Hackathons
With lesson plans and a start-up kit, more volunteers can teach Scratch
It was awesome. My friends and I will keep doing this at home. If you have more classes, I will go to them.
I really enjoyed the class! I have Scratch at home but I did not know how to use it. Thank you!!
My kid really liked it, he practiced at home all day. Thank you for the class.
This was a new experience for me, and thanks for teaching me.
This was the most amazing experience ever! I can't wait to do Scratch again!
